The episode starts with a life-and-death situation for Flavius, who was badly wounded. Everyone was praying for him, especially Fatma, who was completely devastated. At one point, the healers even thought they had lost him, but in a miraculous moment, his breath returned, bringing a small ray of hope amidst the surrounding chaos. However, this was just the beginning of a very heavy episode for the Kayi family.
The Growing Threat and Diplomatic Pressure in Kurulus Orhan Episode 18
While Flavius is recovering, Sultan Orhan has to deal with massive problems brewing on all borders. In Kurulus Orhan Episode 18, we see that enemies are closing in from every side. Germiyanoğlu Mehmet has strengthened the walls of Karacahisar, while Shahinshah has openly rebelled, forming an alliance with Demirhan and the Ilkhanid forces. The pressure is not just military but also political. A letter arrives from the Byzantine Emperor suggesting a marriage between Orhan and Princess Asporça to seal an alliance against their common enemy, Prens Andronikos. This news creates a lot of tension in the palace, especially for Nilüfer Hatun, who is heartbroken at the thought of Orhan marrying someone else for the sake of the state.
The Heartbreaking Ambush and the Loss of Brave Alps
One of the most painful parts of this episode involves Alaeddin Bey. He goes as an envoy to Shahinshah’s camp to give a final warning, showing great bravery even when surrounded by enemies. However, on his way back to Bursa, Shahinshah and Demirhan prove their cowardice by setting a deadly trap. This deadly ambush by Shahinshah results in a brutal battle where the Kayi family suffers a massive blow. Two of our most beloved and loyal alps, Dumrul and Balaban martyrdom, happens right before our eyes. It was a truly soul-crushing scene to see these brothers, who were just talking about getting married and settling down, give their lives for the cause. Alaeddin himself is severely wounded and left for dead.
Orhan’s Strategic Move and the Battle for Karacahisar
Orhan, unaware of the full extent of the tragedy at first, moves forward with a brilliant plan to confuse his enemies. He uses Cerkutay and a small group of alps to light hundreds of fires around Karacahisar, making Mehmet Bey believe he is surrounded by a massive army. While the enemies are distracted, Orhan travels to Rumeli with Asporça to intercept a shipment of gold and reinforcements meant for the rebels. During this journey, Orhan and Asporça start to understand each other better, though Orhan remains firm that he does not want a marriage based on force. Meanwhile, back in Bursa, the news of the ambush reaches Malhun Hatun and Gonca, leading to a desperate search for Alaeddin.
Must-Watch Moment
The most powerful scene in this episode is undoubtedly the moment Boran Bey and the alps find the bodies of Dumrul and Balaban. The sheer grief on Boran’s face as he cries over his fallen brothers is enough to move anyone to tears. Shortly after, they find Alaeddin’s broken dagger and eventually locate him, barely clinging to life. The emotional weight of the deadly ambush by Shahinshah and the Dumrul and Balaban martyrdom sets a dark tone for the upcoming vengeance.

As the episode nears its end, Orhan finally confronts the forces at Karacahisar. He manages to lure the commander Avcı out of the castle and into a trap. Dursun Bey reveals that Flavius is actually the son of a noble Kiptchak Bey named Evrenos, who was martyred years ago. Orhan gives him the name Evrenos and sends him to find his roots. The episode ends on a high-stakes cliffhanger with Orhan facing Shahinshah’s reinforcements, promising that he will take a life for every drop of blood spilled.
